30th  April -  Activcity  Ingliston Criterium, No 1 – Edinburgh.

Ryan Keir and Kieran Kirk continued to develop their racing skills at this local Criterium with both boys finishing the 4th Category race in 14th and 24th position respectively. There was such a big field that two Cat 4 races had to be organised to accommodate all participants.

27 th April – The Melton Cicle Classic – Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

Classed as “Britain’s Belgium Classic,” Four of the Under 23 riders Ruari Yeoman, Sean Noon, Lewis Grieve and Fraser Martin took part in this Premier Calendar event. All had a massive learning experience as they got to fully understand what it is like to ride in a Senior Elite event in the UK. Unfortunately none of the boys finished the race but all gained a valuable amount of experience and learned just how much more is required to compete at this level.

A day when Spokes RT were well represented with 6 junior riders all competing in the Dunfermline Road Race, also competing for the Jack Murray Junior trophy. 22 March - Crit on the Campus - Stirling

On Sunday afternoon. Scotland’s top professionals were out in force at the Crit on the Campus at Stirling University. With seven Spokes riders taking to the start line, hopes of a successful afternoon were high and, after 30 minutes of hard racing, it was evident that they were not to be disappointed. Just after the half way point of the race, Fraser Martin, broke from the pack, taking Raleigh’s Evan Oliphant and Peter Murdoch and Steven Lawley of Neon Velo Cycle Team with him, quickly establishing a lead of 20 seconds. Big efforts were made by the bunch to neutralise the threat that this formidable quartet posed but, as the final five laps loomed, it looked increasingly evident that the break would prove to be decisive. With the finish line fast approaching, Fraser held his nerve as attempts of his companions to break clear of the four were quelled, opening the door for a dramatic sprint finish. As Oliphant ghosted away in the finishing straight to take the win, Martin was only just beaten into third place by Peter Murdoch, capping off a very strong ride.
“I’m quite happy to finish third,” said Fraser after the race. “The race was tough from the start so I’m happy to finish on the podium. I’d have preferred a step, or two, higher, but it’s a good start.” There were also places in the top 20 for Sean Noon and Grant Martin, with Grant also taking the prize of first junior, and Ben Forsyth taking the 2nd junior prize. (Report by Calum Mitchell)

21 March 2015 - Reivers Road Race - Northumberland

Calum Mitchell and John McLeod battled it out with riders from north and south of the border on the roads of Northumberland in the Reivers Road Race. A testing course and blustery conditions made for a hard race as riders were keen to escape from the clutches of the bunch almost as soon as the flag dropped. Various moves came and went with limited success until Jonathan Bayley of Gosforth RC and Pro Vision Cycle Clothing’s Robert Friel joined forces to manufacture a gap that the bunch couldn’t seem to get close to until the final metres. Bayley managed to time his effort to perfection, holding off a Spokes-led pack to take the win. Calum and John fought hard in the sprint finish, resulting in them taking 7th and 8th place respectively, giving the pair some precious regional ranking points. (Report by Calum Mitchell)

14th March 2015 – Gifford Road Race – Gifford,  East Lothian.

On a cold East Lothian day, the competition was fierce amongst riders as they tried to take first blood in The ‘Alba’ Road Race Series over the testing 65 mile course. It was a big day for the Kirkcaldy team as they had 10 riders taking part in both the A and B races.

Their day started off well as John McLeod, took a hard fought 11th place in the B race. He then joined nine of his team mates to take part in the A race, which included the respected Scottish pro, Evan Oliphant.

After an erratic start with riders taking every opportunity to attack the already straining bunch, the race soon settled down as they rattled around the undulating eight mile circuit at a blistering pace.

The stalemate held for a couple of laps until nine riders slipped away, one of which being the young Spokes junior, Grant Martin, and carved out an unassailable advantage over the rest of the race.

A rotten stroke of luck would proceed to end Martin’s chances, though, as he was taken down in a crash with a fellow breakaway companion. A brave attempt to battle on back in the bunch eventually came to an end and, with that, his day was done.

This left chance of a Spokes’ success down to the remaining seven riders who were still left in the chasing bunch. The break managed to hold off the chase with Matthew Kipling of MTS Cycle Sport outsprinting the likes of Oliphant to win the first race of the Scottish racing calendar.

Fraser Martin obtained Spokes’ best finish with 12th place as a further three of his teammates managed to make it into the top 20. Local boys, Calum Mitchell and Lewis Grieve, came in only a few places back - something they can both build on for a tough season ahead.

A challenging first outing for the new look Spokes Racing Team but one they cannot be disheartened from. Improvements here and there could see them pose a real threat in Scottish, and British, road racing this season. (Report written by Calum Mitchell)
